Eligibility and Prerequisites
The Northwestern Medicine Diagnostic Medical Sonography program operates with a competitive admittance policy where prospective students may apply to the program. To be considered for admission, all applicants must complete follow one of the educational pathways outlined below in addition to all prerequisite courses:
Educational Pathways
University Affiliate Program (3+1.5)
Students currently enrolled in an affiliated 3+1.5 degree program at one the following universities: Students complete 3 years of undergraduate and prerequisite coursework at their home institution followed by 16 months of didactic, laboratory, and clinical education training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Upon successful completion of all program-specific requirements, the student's home institution will confer a baccalaureate degree upon the student and Northwestern Memorial Hospital will award a certificate of completion. Affiliate students must apply to the diagnostic medical sonography program and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 for undergraduate courses. All prerequisite courses must be passed with a minimum grade of “C” and the total prerequisite course GPA must be no less than 2.7.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program
This pathway is for applicants who have completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or better. Prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better and prerequisite GPA must be no less than 2.7. Upon successful completion of program-specific requirements, Northwestern Memorial Hospital will award the student a certificate of completion.
Certificate Program for Students Registered in a Healthcare-Related Field
This pathway is for applicants who are graduates of an accredited two-year patient care-related program. Applicants must be nationally certified and in good standing in the respective discipline(s) such as nursing (RN), radiologic technology, medical assistant or respiratory therapy and have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or better for the certificate/AS/AAS degree. Prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better and prerequisite GPA must be no less than 2.7. Applicants must be registered in their discipline prior to the start of the DMS program. Upon successful completion of program-specific requirements, Northwestern Memorial Hospital will award the student a certificate of completion.

This program is for the education of sonographers and not for physician, physician background, or residency training in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. NMHC is not able to admit non-affiliated international students at this time and does not offer student visa sponsorship. |
