Eligibility and Prerequisites
Prospective students of various educational backgrounds may be eligible for program admission. To be considered for admission, prospective students must follow one of the three pathways outlined below:
University Affiliate Program (3+1.5)
This pathway is for students enrolled in degree programs at the following affiliate universities: Benedictine University, Elmhurst University, Lewis University, North Central College, and Roosevelt University. Students will complete 3 years of undergraduate and prerequisite coursework at their home institution followed by 18 months of clinical training and instruction at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Upon successful completion of degree and program-specific requirements, the student's home institution will confer a baccalaureate degree upon the student and Northwestern Memorial Hospital will award a certificate of completion. Affiliate students must apply to the diagnostic medical sonography program and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for undergraduate courses. All prerequisite courses must be passed with a grade of “C” or better and prerequisite GPA must be no less than 2.5.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program
This pathway is for applicants who have completed a bachelor's degree (science-related preferred) from an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better. Prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better and prerequisite GPA must be no less than 2.5. Upon successful completion of program-specific requirements, Northwestern Memorial Hospital will award the student a certificate of completion.
Certificate Program for Students Registered in a Healthcare-Related Field
This pathway is for applicants who are graduates of an accredited two-year patient care-related program. Applicants must be nationally certified and in good standing in disciplines such as nursing (RN), radiologic technology, medical assistant or respiratory therapy and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for the certificate/AS degree. Prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better and prerequisite GPA must be no less than 2.5. Applicants must be registered in their discipline prior to the start of the DMS program. Upon successful completion of program-specific requirements, Northwestern Memorial Hospital will award the student a certificate of completion.
