The Northwestern Medicine Basic Nursing Assistant Training Program is a 16-week program held on Fridays.
Program start date: March 22, 2024

July 12 - There will be no class July 5th for Summer Break!
Program Hours:
Didactic/Classroom days: 8:00am - 5:30pm
Clinical days: 6:30am - 3:00pm

Eligible Applicants & Application Requirements
Full-time or part-time NM employees (who have been employed at NM for a minimum of six months) seeking Certified Nursing Assistant certification. Employee must have minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a “C” average or above. Submission of official transcripts, with final GPA listed, is required.
Application deadline: January 12, 2024
Interviews & Testing (if moved to Phase 2): February 5, 2024 - February 7, 2024
Applicants notified of acceptance status: February 9, 2024
Acceptance or declination due: February 16, 2024
BLS Healthcare Provider Certification Course: Offered during orientation on March 15, 2024.
If accepted, student must complete a BLS Healthcare Provider Certification course through NM. If certification course is taken outside of NM, it must be through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Information and pertinent dates for criminal background check will be provided upon acceptance to the program.

*The Health Care Worker Background Check Act and the Health Care Worker Background Check Code in accordance with the 77 Illinois Administrative Code, Section 395.171 and Part 955, Section 955.160 requires individuals seeking admission to the NM Clinical School CNA Training Program to undergo a criminal background check.
A fingerprint-based criminal history records check must be done prior to the start of class through an approved vendor. Students who do not complete this requirement are not allowed to attend the first day of class and will consequently be dropped due to failure to comply with state mandated clinical requirements.
A student with a positive background check containing disqualifying convictions as defined by the state law will not be allowed to enter the clinical portion of this program and must drop the course.

If a student presents with an IDPH waiver for a criminal conviction, the information will be disclosed to the affiliate/liaison at the clinical site and the IDPH mandates relevant to criminal background changes for the student will be followed.

All students must have frequent and convenient access to a computer (desktop or laptop) with reliable high-speed internet. The minimum computer systems requirements are outlined below:

- Employee’s current department manager or direct supervisor must submit a signed BNA Program NM Letter of Recommendation Form by January 12, 2024 acknowledging the employee’s time commitment of 16 weeks on Friday.
- NOTE to employee: please discuss with your current department manager or direct supervisor PRIOR to submitting online application to confirm your availability.
- Employee must submit a typed, one-page personal statement outlining 2-3 career goals and description of how the BNA Program will help employee reach these goals
- Employee must pass Mosby’s Reading Assessment Test and Mosby’s Math Assessment Test (tests given onsite)
